What kind of complaints can not be investigated by the Federal Ombudsman?

The office of the Federal Ombudsman cannot investigate complaints that do not concern a federal administrative authority: 

if there is a specific mediation service, the Federal Ombudsman will forward your complaint accordingly, 

nor complaints that concern a federal administrative authority but where:

  • You have evidently not yet contacted the administrative authority concerned to try and solve your problem; 
  • Your complaint is clearly unfounded;
  • Your complaint has already been processed by the Federal Ombudsman and does not contain any new elements. 


  • Your complaint is anonymous (you have not disclosed your identity); 
  • Your complaint pertains to facts dating back more than one year and you have taken no initiative since then.
